I’m fairly certain Wes hates me.

Bo has never really liked me, and I don’t think that will ever change. I’m okay with that. He tolerates me. He helps keep me alive. For what reason, I’m not entirely sure, but I accept his assistance and occasional disregard either way.

Wes, on the other hand, has always been kind to me. Warm. Inviting. Never cold and shut off like Bo.

Bo acts like he doesn’t have a heart, and I wouldn’t be all that surprised if it were a true statement. That perhaps he has something else fueling his lifeforce. Stale bread and ale are the only two things he seems to get excited about. Well, that, and killing. Hunters, demons, witches, fae, vampires, werewolves—you name it, Bo will slaughter it. He doesn’t really discriminate. Basically, if it looks at him wrong, it’s fair game.

Luckily for me, I’ve managed to not piss Bo off enough for him to end my life. And up until recently, I thought Wes would be the person to reinforce that belief that I wasn’t on the menu for dinner.

Now, Wes can barely meet my gaze, and the few times he does, he suppresses a snarl that rises from his chest. His beast is mad. No, his beast is furious. But why? Because I slept with Wren? She’s a hunter, why would any of them care? If anything, they should be grateful that she doesn’t hate at least one of us. I’m not convinced she won’t butcher us the first chance she gets, but if she does, maybe the little bit of a relationship I’ve formed with her will aid in my ability to reason with her. It’s wishful thinking, that much I’m aware of.

I’ve spent enough time with Bo to know that those carnal desires are often impossible to turn off. And despite Bo and Wren hating each other, they’re more alike than they think.

They are both passionate about their beliefs. And they are determined to kill anyone that crosses them. Unfortunately for them, they're at far ends of the spectrum, naturally wanting nothing more than to rip each other's throats out.

Wes is brutal, too, but he’s rational. He doesn’t kill just to kill the way Bo and Wren do. He does it to survive. He’s able to separate his distaste for Wren’s kind enough to not go seeking them out. He actually tries to avoid hunters at all costs unless necessary. And if it weren’t for the distress call that we overheard that day, he wouldn’t have rushed to that dodgy side of town and did what he could to save a few demons who got caught in the crossfire.

I wasn’t there to witness the fight firsthand, but I could barely believe my own eyes when I saw him pick her nearly lifeless body off the ground and bring her back to the cabin. I should have realized then that she was something to him, but in all my time with these two guys, I never would have imagined that kind of connection happening with a hunter.
